OBITUARY THE CHARITON PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, January 20, 1972 Willard Deming, son of Sterling and Cynthia Deming, was born at Rhodes, in Marshall County, Iowa, on April 18, 1913 and passed away at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital on Jan. 6, 1972 at the age of 58 years, 8 months and 19 days. He was the 7th in a family of 11 children. He was united in marriage to Ethel McDonald on June 13, 1940, and to this union were born three children; Cathy Goodnight of Knoxville, and sons, Curtis of Jacksonville, Fla., and Chris of Aspen, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Mildred and 4 brothers, Wyatt, Sterling, Merle and Harry. He moved to Lucas County at the age of five years and spent the remainder of his life engaged in farming with the exception of four years spent in Jacksonville, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; and his three children; 1 son-in-law, Terry Goodnight; 2 granddaughters, Leslie and Stacie Goodnight; 3 grandsons, Curtis Jr., Christopher Scott and Cary Wesley of Jacksonville, Fla.; 1 brother John of Owatonna, Minn.; and 4 sisters, Beulah Wright of Minneapolis, Minn.; Bertha Blanchard, Sarah Show and Vera Best all of Chariton; as well as a host of relatives and friends. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a devoted Christian. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. R. Roland Ritter at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 8, 1972 at the Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery near Russell.
