Son of Sterling Stanley Deming and Cynthia Amelia Wyatt OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, October 3, 2000 DEMING John Collins Deming was born Jan. 8, 1909, in Collins, Iowa to Sterling and Cynthia Deming. He died Sept. 25, 2000, at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton. He was one of 11 children. In 1934, he married Gertrude Hall. To this union of 51 years was born two children, Elinor and Richard. While the family lived in Chariton, John farmed, drove a truck and operated a gas station. They later moved to Owatonna, Minn., where they farmed and John worked and retired after 20 years from the King Company. He was a member and past president of the Owatonna Eagles. In 1980, they returned to Chariton. John was a member of the Chariton Eagles and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chariton. He loved to spend time fishing, hunting and gardening. In 1986, John was united in marriage to Lois M. Morgan, who took very good care of him for 14 years, in good times and bad. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Gertrude; and the following brothers and sisters: Wyatt E., Sterling S., Mildred M., Beulah M., Merle M., Willard J., Harry M., Sara A., and Vera G., and son-in-law, Donald Grunz. John is survived by his wife, Lois of Chariton; daugher, Elinor Grunz of Salina, Kan.; son, J. Richard Deming of Springfield, Mo.; step-son, Larry Morgan of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Bertha Blanchard of Chariton; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton with Pastor Larry Prosser officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery. Bearers were Richard Deming, Allen Grunz, Terry Grunz, Jim Ryan, Don Klobnock and Clifford Phillips. Walter Hitt was an honorary bearer.
