Description	:	The community was saddened on Saturday morning when they learned of the sudden death of one of our old and highly respected citizens, William A. Rider, which occurred at the one of his son, L. W. Rider, on Friday evening. Mr. Rider was ill only a short time before passing to the great beyond. He has for many years been a resident of this vicinity and has made a number of friends by whom he will be greatly missed. William A. Read More	The community was saddened on Saturday morning when they learned of the sudden death of one of our old and highly respected citizens, William A. Rider, which occurred at the one of his son, L. W. Rider, on Friday evening. Mr. Rider was ill only a short time before passing to the great beyond. He has for many years been a resident of this vicinity and has made a number of friends by whom he will be greatly missed. William A. Rider was born in Herkimer County, New York, January 30, 1836 and departed this life at the home of his son, L. W. Rider, February 2, 1923, aged 87 years and 3 days. He was married to Caroline D. Slade, January 30, 1860. To this union were born six children, two having died in infancy and Caroline, his wife died December 5, 1870. On January 30, 1872, he was again married to Mrs. Helen Adams. T this union was born one daughter, who died February 12, 1899. He is survived by his wife, and four sons, E. E. Rider of Sanquoit, New York; Burton L. Rider of Oswego, New York, F. D. Rider of Bristol, Illinois, and L. W. Rider of Nodaway, Iowa. Besides the immediate family, he leaves to mourn his loss ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, and a large host of friends. He was one of the early pioneers of the state, coming to Iowa in 1887. He is the last of a family of seven children. Another generation has come and gone. He was a kind and loving father, always ready to go out of his wife to help one who was in need. His life adhered to that old Proverbial text, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." His life was an example of truth, honesty, and integrity. Another giant of the human family has been made low and has gone to join the kindred dust. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Silas R. Overholser. Interment made in the Nodaway Cemetery. The many friends of this vicinity extend their sympathy to those bereaves ones in the loss of this loved husband, father, and grandfather. Adams County Free Press, February 10, 1923, page 16
