Mr. Riser has been associated with all forward movements for many years, sincerely serving his community and country in numerous official capacities over a period of years. He has been in poor health for the past 6 months and passed away at the family home in Nodaway Thursday, August 3, 1944, at 4:25 a.m. The deceased was born in Cedar Lake, Herkimer County, New York, on March 29, 1870, the son of William A. Rider and Caroline D. Slade. In 1880 he came west and settled in Adams County, where he has engaged in farming ever since. On December 24, 1896 he was united in marriage to Louise M. Kernen in Nodaway, who with four of their five children are left to mourn a kind and devoted father and husband. Mr. Rider leaves a host of friends who will remember him as the highest type of father and friend and friend, a man of sterling character, devoted to his family and community, kind and generous to his friends and neighbors. The surviving children are Gilbert W. Rider, at home; Florence C. Brown, Corning; Ruth H. Good, Mountain Home, Tennessee; and Paul K. Rider, Nodaway. One son, Sgt. Albert L. Rider preceded his father in death, giving his life for his country. Other surviving relatives are two brothers, Elmer E. Rider of Sauquoit, New York and Fred D. Rider, Aurora, Illinois, and two grandchildren, Marjorie P. Good of Mountain Home, Tennessee and Cadet Richard W. Good of Altis, Oklahoma. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist Church conducted by Rev. H. B. Kishpaugh. Music was by MRs. Harold Everett, Mrs. Floyd Neill, Martin Taylor, Lloyd Means, and Albert Davie. Mrs. Martin Taylor was at the piano. Pall bearers were Alva Walters, Virgil Narigon, Carl Johnson, Raymond Knudson, Sylvester Barker, Virgil Wiley. Interment was in the Nodaway Cemetery.
