Description	:	William Allen Cleland Sr., 84, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed from this earth in Defiance, Ohio on Saturday, October 25, 2014 due to an extended bout with colon cancer and lung disease. Bill was born on October 20, 1930 to parents William R. Cleland and Audrie (Peter) Cleland in Hicksville, Ohio. He graduated from Hicksville High School in 1948 and was joined in marriage to Doris Inez Pedroza (Winn) in 1951. Read More	William Allen Cleland Sr., 84, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed from this earth in Defiance, Ohio on Saturday, October 25, 2014 due to an extended bout with colon cancer and lung disease. Bill was born on October 20, 1930 to parents William R. Cleland and Audrie (Peter) Cleland in Hicksville, Ohio. He graduated from Hicksville High School in 1948 and was joined in marriage to Doris Inez Pedroza (Winn) in 1951. Soon thereafter, Bill went to work on the small family farm and within decades transformed it into the 5 C’s Farm, a highly successful cattle feedlot operation. Bill enjoyed playing basketball, continued to do so after school in the Ft. Wayne Industrial League, and remained a passionate fan of the Boston Celtics, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and Lebron James until his death. Bill was a lifelong church member, being baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Hicksville while remaining there for most of his adult life as a constant member of the church choir and also serving on the church council and various committees. Bill became a member of Hicksville’s First Church of Christ later in life. Bill was a charter member and past President of the National Cattleman’s Association, as well as a long serving member of the Ohio Cattleman’s Association. He was on the Operating Committee of the Ohio Beef Council for 10 years, as well as serving a long stint on the Landmark Board of Directors. He was over a 60 year member of both the Rotary International and the Farm Bureau Association. In 2013, Bill, was inducted into the Ohio Agricultural Hall of Fame for Defiance County. Bill leaves behind his best friend and loving wife Doris, as well as three sons, William A. (Rachel) Cleland Jr., Phillip (Loretta, deceased) Cleland, David (Carol) Cleland, all of Hicksville; There are three grandchildren, Sean Cleland of Kent, Ohio, Carrie (David) Bussing of Hicksville and Christopher (Ronae) Cleland of Crawfordsville, Indiana; and two great grandchildren- Josiah Cleland and Charis Cleland, both of Crawfordsville. Bill also is survived by four very loving siblings. They are Corinne Hurni of Hicksville, Carolyn (Ben) Self of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Lynn (Mary) Cleland of Danville, California and Edward (Katie) Cleland of Farmington Hills, Michigan. Bill was always proud of his farm and family, while standing by his faith. Viewing for Bill will be held at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, 706 N. Main St in Hicksville on Wednesday, October 29 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday October 30 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Jerold Tear presiding. Burial will be in Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville.
