Description	:	Obituary courtesy of Wendy Regier: The death of William Bryans, who died on Monday evening, February 25 at the home of his son, James at Varney, removes one of the oldest residents of this district. He was ill for only one week, mostly from the infirmities of old age. The deceased was born and lived all his life on the farm taken out by his parents, the late James and Emily Sirrs Bryans, who came out from Ireland to take up crown land near Varney. Read More	Obituary courtesy of Wendy Regier: The death of William Bryans, who died on Monday evening, February 25 at the home of his son, James at Varney, removes one of the oldest residents of this district. He was ill for only one week, mostly from the infirmities of old age. The deceased was born and lived all his life on the farm taken out by his parents, the late James and Emily Sirrs Bryans, who came out from Ireland to take up crown land near Varney. In l883 on Christmas Day he married Martha Coles of Hockley Valley, twelve miles from Orangeville. They farmed on the homestead until l9l6 when James Bryans took over the place. Mrs. Bryans died thirteen years ago. Mr. Bryans attended Varney United Church. He is survived by two sons and one daughter, James of Varney, Robert of Glenelg Township and Mrs. Peter Robbins (Sarah Ann) of Durham. One son, Richard of Varney died five years ago. There are seventeen grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. Of a family of nine, one sister Mrs. Donald Stewart (Anna) of Owen Sound, is the only survivor. The funeral is being held this afternoon (Thursday) with interment in Maplewood Cemetary.
