"Bill" Bruck, 84, of rural La Motte, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue. A celebration of his life will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, La Motte, where military rites will be accorded. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa. He was born on Feb. 14, 1925, in Portsmouth. He was the sixth child of William and Clara (Windeshausen) Bruck. He grew up in the Portsmouth area and became a World War II veteran of the Navy. After being honorably discharged, he moved to the La Motte area, visiting relatives and looking for work. It was here that he met his future wife, Mildred M. Roussel. They were married on Aug. 6, 1946, in La Motte. Bill first worked as a mechanic in downtown La Motte. He then farmed in the La Motte area for more than 55 years. Bill was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. He had been a past board member and treasurer for the La Motte Telephone Co. for many years, and co-founder and treasurer for the La Motte Community Fire Department for 54 years. He also was a member of the Bellevue American Legion Post 273 and had been a salesman for Pride (Northrup King) for many years. Bill enjoyed camping, golfing, square dancing and playing cards, especially euchre. He was a loving, caring, husband and father. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were especially important to him. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Bruck, of Bellevue; a daughter, Carol (Dale) Manderscheid, of Bellevue; three grandchildren, Michael (Kathie) Manderscheid, Jennifer (Michael) Ambrosy and Tanya (Chad) Roeder; eight great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jevin and Avery Manderscheid, Brandon and Hannah Ambrosy, Camden, Mitchell and Madalyn Roeder; and sisters, Helen Langenfeld, of Spencer, and Clara (Dick) Carroll, of Harlan. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Rita, Mary, Joan, Joyce and Joann; and five brothers, Mike, Joseph, Nick, Neil and Mark.
