William and his wife are here buried just a few graves from his parents in the New Marshfield Cemetery, Athens Co., Ohio. Not much information has been located regarding William. He participated in the Civil War and died shortly thereafter. His parents were first identified in Belmont Co., in the 1830 Census; his father, perhaps in the 1820 Census for Belmont Co. His uncle, Vincent Dillon, Sr., was the first of his line to eventually resettle from Monroe Co. to Lawrence Co., in the middle 1840s. William Cox enlisted 19 Aug 1861 for military service and was discharged 28 Oct 1861 during the Civil War. He was assigned to Co. C of the 18th O. V. I. as a 1st SGT. His short term of service may have been a reason why this information was not placed on this grave monument, which typically included the Civil War military unit.
