Long Time Resident Of Huntley Community. William David Porter, age 67 years, passed away Friday, November 27th, at the Brewster hospital in Holdrege, where he had been a patient for some time. Mr. Porter had been failing health for the past few years. Will, as he was known to his many friends, had lived in the Huntley community a number of years and leaves a host of friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 1, at the Methodist church in Huntley and interment was made in the Bainbridge cemetery in charge of Zulauf Funeral Service. An obituary will be published in next week's issue of the Journal. William David Porter, son of Elizabeth and James Porter, was born near Basco, Ill., August 5, 1875, and departed this life at the Brewster hospital in Holdrege, November 27, 1942, at the age of 67 years, 3 months and 22 days. In 1887, he, with his parents, came to Nebraska and settled on a farm in Fillmore county, later moving to Harlan county. On February 12, 1902, he was united in marriage to Lillie Skiles, at her home near Republican City. To this union were born four daughters and two sons. In his early life he became a member of the Methodist church at Huntley, firm in faith and a true Christian up to the time of his death. Mr. Porter was a dear, loving husband and father, friend and neighbor, always ready and willing to lend a hand, and constantly thoughtful of his loved ones and those around him. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mrs. Will Porter; four daughters, Mrs. Dick McConnell, of Holdrege, Mrs. Floyd Kaup, of Republican City, Mrs. Fred Howsden, of Huntley, and Margie at home; two sons, Everett, at home, and Lester, in the Army Air Corp in Alaska; two brothers, one sister, one half-brother, one half-sister; six grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Brief services were held at his home Tuesday afternoon, December 1, 1942, after which funeral services were conducted at the Huntley Methodist church, by Rev. H.S. Weary. The body was laid to rest in the family lot in the Bainbridge cemetery. A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled, A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled. God in his wisdom has recalled, The one his love has given. And though the body molders here, The soul is safe in Heaven.
