Church at 1 p.m. A large concourse of sympathizing friends followed the remains to their last resting place on earth in the IOOF Cemetery near that place. W. D. Killmore was born in Syracuse, NY, October 15, 1832. He came of a race of forerunners of the history of industrial life and development of the United States. At the time when the Canadian forces moved upon Black Rock. Mr. Killmore was a volunteer in the regular army organized to repel that invasion. He was of Holland Dutch ancestry, originating from the old stock of Philip Kulmaier, who came to the colony of New York in 1870, the name having since been changed to Killmore. The first fifteen years of Mr. Killmore's life was spent in his native state. His first work of self making was of a 'cub' pilot on the steamers Alida and Francis Skidder, plying the Hudson between Albany and the sea. After leaving the river life he entered the employ of the railroad and for two years fired a locomotive on a line in New York state. Later on he went to Chicago and secured a job on the Northwestern road which position had held for seven years. In 1859 he crossed the plains to Pike's Peak being induced by the gold excitement in that section. He remained there two years and enlisted in Company F First Colorado Cavalry, commanded by Captain Cook to fight Indians. It was in May 1873 that he came west and landed in Seattle. After a few days rest he came over to this valley to spy out a future home. He was well pleased with Kittitas Valley and on June 8, 1873, he filed on his homestead near Thorp, where he lived until two years ago when he moved to Seattle. Mr. Killmore was married to Miss Josephine Rego of Indiana, February 18, 1872. Mr. Killmore leaves besides a wife, one son, John C., and three daughters, Mrs. Clara Wasson, Katie and Effie, with whom all who know them, or known of them, join with The Dawn in extending sympathy. He was buried with Masonic honors. The Ellensburg Dawn, October 27, 1910
