Plath, 88, Dies, Services On Wednesday William Ernest Plath, 88, passed away at 11:50 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's hospital where he had been a patient the last day and one-half. He had suffered a stroke and death resulted. Born Oct. 13, 1858, Ratzebuhr, Pom., Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Plath, he came to the United States with his parents in 1871, and settled in New York. After a few years residence there, the family moved to Passaic, N.J. In 1867 he married Miss Mathilda Gottberg, and they made their home at Passaic, N. J., for a couple of years, following which they came to Platte county and lived on a farm in Grand Prairie township. About ten years later they moved to Humphrey and remained for five years, and then came to Columbus to since reside. When living here, Mr. Plath was engineer at the Columbus Light Plant, a position he held until his retirement about 25 years ago. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Godberson of Nanaimo, Vancouver, B. C., Mrs. William Hoshor of Columbus, and Mrs. Leo Woerth of Columbus; and one son Albert Plath of Great Falls, Mont., 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Hannah Brunken and Mrs. Mary Kusant of Columbus; and one brother, Leopold Plath of Fremont. Mr. Plath was preceded in death, by five children, Louis, Willie, Max, Elizabeth, and George; and one brother Gustaph. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Gass chapel with Rev. C. R. Goldenstein, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran church, officiating. Burial will be in the Columbus cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Gass funeral home from 2 p.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service.
