Etheridge Parks, highly respected resident of Maryland Avenue, died in the Fort Howard Veterans Hospital in Baltimore Thursday of last week, following an illness of several weeks. He was 66 year of age. Mr. Parks was born on Holland's Island, the son of the late Wiley and Rosa McCoy Parks. His mother died just a short time ago. When Holland's Island began to wash badly, making it necessary for the residents to seek homes elsewhere, a number of them, including Mr. and Mrs. Parks, came to Crisfield. He was 66 year of age. Mr. Parks was born on Holland's Island, the son of the late Wiley and Rosa McCoy Parks. His mother died just a short time ago. When Holland's Island began to wash badly, making it necessary for the residents to seek homes elsewhere, a number of them, including Mr. and Mrs. Parks, came to Crisfield. Others settled in Cambridge, St. Michaels and Hebron. Mr. Parks was best known by friends and acquaintances as "Mike." He was a kindly and courteous man, a little shy, but very friendly once he became well acquainted, and had the fine qualities that Godfearing men possess. He was considerate of others, had respect for them, and in turn enjoyed the respect and warm friendship of a large circle of friends and acquaintances. He was a veteran of World War 1, and served for more than a year overseas. He was an expert waterman, having followed that vocation all his life, and in his time had been helpful to others both on land and sea. Doing someone a favor meant a lot to him. He was a fine man and citizen and there is general regret at his passing. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon in the Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home here, conducted by the Rev. J. Howard Link, pastor of Immanuel Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. Wilbur M. Whalen, pastor of the Holiness Christian Church. Burial was in Sunnyridge Memorial Park. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Nellie Ward Parks, and two sisters, Mrs. Clarence Todd and Mrs. Nellie Todd, all of Crisfield. The Crisfield Times, July 11, 1958 pg.8
