He had been in declining health several years. A son of the late William E. and Texie Ward Howard, he was a native of Pickens County and made his home in Easley since 1924. He was a graduate of the Easley High School, a member and past master of Bates Lodge 189, AFM, Pickens Chapter 47, RAM, Greenville Commandery 4 KT and Hejaz Temple Shrine, Greenville. He was associated with Alice Manufacturing Co for a number of years, and was supervisor of weaving at the Elljean Plant when he retired due to ill health. He was a member of the Park Street Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ethel Crowe Howard; a son Mike Howard of the home; two daughters, Miss Barbara Howard of Winston Salem, N.C., and Mrs. Dewey (Gale) Hydrick Jr. of Houston, Tex.; a brother, Jim Howard of Pickens, five sisters, Mrs. J.E. (Edith) Garrett, Mrs. J.E. (Ethel) Porter and Mrs. Della Cochran of Pickens; Ms. Beulah Howard and Mrs. Gladys Jackson of Easley and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at the Park Street Baptist Church by Rev. Herman Lewis, Rev. Virgil Merck and Rev. Milo Hayes. Burial will be made in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Harold Rampey, Tommy Rogers, Tony Crawford, Earl Porter, Kenneth Cochran and Clyde Howard. The Paul Parsons Class of the Park Street Sunday School and the following will compose the honorary escort, J.V. Owens, W.P. Galloway, Claude Holcombe, J.S. Bagwell and Walter Gilstrap. The body is at Robinson Funeral Home and will be carried to the home at 2 p.m. Sunday and will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Monday. Bates Lodge 189, AFM, will have charge of the services at the graveside. The Lodge will open at 3 p.m. Monday.
