Read More	The Hooper Sentinel January 21, 1932 Pioneer Settler Called to His Rest William Keller, one of the few remaining pioneer residents of this locality, passed quietly away at his home in this city at 2:30 last Thursday morning, January 14, 1932, at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 1 day. His death was due to ailments incidental to old age. Up to about a year ago Mr. Keller had always enjoyed good health, but then his health and strength began failing and for the past couple of weeks he was bedfast. A native of Germany, Mr. Keller was born on November 13, 1843, at Schnett, Sachsen-Meiningen, in that country. At an early age he came to the United States with his mother and step-father, and made his fist home in the new land in Wisconsin. In 1864 Mr. Keller came west to Nebraska and located on a farm 4«ˆ miles northeast of the present site of Hooper, our town then being unknown. Since then this community has always been his home, and as a pioneer he bravely met the tests and tasks of the hardships and trials of early day life in this vicinity. He was a highly respected citizen and enjoyed a very large acquaintanceship among the people in this locality, all of whom express sincere sympathy to the bereaved widow and other members of the family. In 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Annie Dahl at Swaburg, and his death breaks marriage ties that have existed for nearly sixty-two years. After forty years of active work on the farm Mr. and Mrs. Keller retired and moved to the home in east Hooper in which they have since resided. To this union were born three children, a son, William, died in early infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. Martin A. Uehling, having passed away September 7, 1930. A daughter, Mrs. A. W. Morrell, of Atkinson, survives and with her aged mother now mourn the loss of a kind and devoted father and husband. Other close surviving relatives are three grandchildren, Miss Eva and Vyrle Uehling of Hooper and Theodore Morrell of Atkinson. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon with short services at the home and at two o'clock from the Zions Lutheran church the pastor, Rev. A. S. Pannbacker, preaching the words of comfort to the sorrowing relatives and to the friends who had assembled there as a last mark of respect to his memory. Interment was made in the Hooper cemetery.hhw
