He sometimes went by the given name, George. On the 1850 Lexington, VA census, I found merchant Wm G White, 39; Ann E., 36; Margaret E, 6; Wm H, 3 and Mary, 1, all VA born. They lived next to Robert T White, 31 and his family. On the 1860 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found Wm G. White, merchant, 49; Anne E., 46; Mag E., 16; Wm H., 13; Ann E., 8; Clara, 6 and Robert, 4, all VA born. On the 1870 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found Dry Goods Merchant, W.G. White, 59; M.E., 25; male DG Merchant W.H., 23; A.E.. 18; C.. 15 and male R, 12. All VA born. On the 1880 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found widowed retired merchant William G. White, 69. His father was born in Ireland and mom in VA. Five of his children resided with him: Margaret E., 34; general merchant William H., 33; Annie, 30; Clara, 28 and Robert, 25 clerk in store.
