MANION William H.Manion, one of Humboldt's most successful business men, was born in Leavenworth Kansas, June 12 1867, and passed away at his residence on Cherokee street in Humboldt, Friday, February 3, 1922. He is survived by his wife, two sons, William F. and Marion M.;brother, Charles, of Buffalo; and sister, Alice M. Ogden, of Oakland, California. MANION William H.Manion, one of Humboldt's most successful business men, was born in Leavenworth Kansas, June 12 1867, and passed away at his residence on Cherokee street in Humboldt, Friday, February 3, 1922. He is survived by his wife, two sons, William F. and Marion M.;brother, Charles, of Buffalo; and sister, Alice M. Ogden, of Oakland, California. The two boys are the sons of Mr. Mannion's first wife, who was a sister of Albert and John Pieper. Mr. Manion's father, Michael Manion, moved to Humboldt in the early 1870's, but came west from New York state much earlier and was a freighter from Leavenworth to Santa Fe, New Mexico, in the early days. Here he raised his family of three children and was occupied in teaming and hauling goods from the railroads for merchants. About twenty-five years ago the subject of this sketch engaged in the grocery business at the present location, gradually drifting into the egg and poultry business, which he developed until he was one of the largest candy buyers and shippers in this section; later opening a branch house in Chanute. The last few months he has been practically confined to his home. Among other afflictions he suffered a stroke that deprived him of the use of his right arm for some time. Last Friday he sustained two light strokes of apoplexy. He had the third, a very severe one, from which he did not recover and his life work was over. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon. Interment was in Mt. Hope cemetery.
