Description	:	Mr. Shields was born in Indiana June 27, 1850, and came with his parents and settled with them on Long Branch southeast of Nodaway when he was 3 years of age. He was married to Miss Lucinda Lemon in Nodaway on October 30, 1874 and they went to housekeeping on the Shields homestead southeast of there. Read More	Mr. Shields was born in Indiana June 27, 1850, and came with his parents and settled with them on Long Branch southeast of Nodaway when he was 3 years of age. He was married to Miss Lucinda Lemon in Nodaway on October 30, 1874 and they went to housekeeping on the Shields homestead southeast of there. Thirty-three years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Shields came to Villisca to reside and for thirty years they lived in their home on West Fifth Street. mr. Shields bought the first lots which were sold in the Stoddard addition, and there he had built for him and his wife the house which at the time was located in a corn field, bounded by brush and timber on the west. Mr. and Mrs. Shields celebrated their golden anniversary October 30, 1924. To them were born six children, all of whom survive. They are Mrs. Grace Fulton and Harry and Burleigh Shields of Omaha, Fred of northwest of Villisca, Edwin of Kelso, Washington, and Mrs. Anna Best of Grinnell, Iowa. Mrs. Shields died here May 8, 1925. For forty years Mr. Shields was in the employ of the Burlington Railway Company, in the bridge building department. He retired from that work four years ago. He was a member of the Christian Church. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the Christian Church with Mrs. Dessie C. Pills in charge of the service. The singing was by Rev. G. W. Kitchen and Miss Eva Arbuckle, with Mrs. Kitchen at the piano. The pall bearers were H. H. Nordyke, Carl Carlson, C. H. foster, John Hultquist, A. L. Belding, and F. S. Pierson, and interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. Those here from a distance to attend the funeral were mr. and Mrs. Harry Shields and son, Mr. and Mrs. Burleigh Shields and two children, Mrs. Grace Fulton and Thelbert Shields, Omaha; and Joe Shields, Siam.
