He recently passed his 77th birthday. Born in Crisfield, he was the son of the late Elijah and Cornelia Sterling Pruitt, and the husband of Mrs. Pearl Daugherty Pruitt. For a great many years and until his retirement a few years ago, he was a successful insurance salesman, representing the Baltimore Life Insurance Company. He was an active member of Mariners Methodist Church, and had devoted much time and attention to its affairs. Mr. Pruitt was one of four remaining veterans of the Spanish American War in the Crisfield area. He served with the First Maryland Infantry in Company "A", and was honorably discharged from the service Feb. 28th, 1899. A descendant of old and prominent Somerset county families, he was a pleasant and approachable man, courteous and friendly, honest and industrious, a man of firm convictions, a helpful person who delighted in being of assistance to others whenever the opportunity offered. Funeral services will be held today, Friday, at 2:30 p.m. in the Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. John R. Diehl, pastor of Mariners Church. Interment will be in the American Legion Cemetery. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Pearl Daugherty Pruitt, two daughters, Mrs. Yvonne Bradshaw of Crisfield and Mrs. Virginia Clark Pruitt of Baltimore; three sisters, Mrs. Norman Lewis of Pocomoke City, Mrs. C. O. Nicholson of El Paso, Texas, and Mrs. Hance Sterling of Crisfield; a brother, Sherman Pruitt, now residing in California, and one grandson, John A. Bradshaw III.
