Fairfield Tribune Wednesday October 13, 1897 Pg. 3 Col. 3 "Uncle Billy" Hutchinson Injured This morning about eleven o'clock "Uncle" Billy Hutchinson, of Buchanan township, while on the crossing between Paramore's restaurant and Clarkes's drug store, met with a serious accident. The old gentleman is somewhat feeble and in going over the crossing the hind wheel of a wagon, loaded with hay, passed over the toe of his right foot. This caused the old man to fall and break the bone in his nose. He was removed to the Idlewild Inn and Dr. Clarke called. Mr. Hutchinson had returned from Kansas only Tuesday evening, and had not yet been out to the home of his relatives in the country. It is an unfortunate accident. ---------- Fairfield Tribune Wednesday Nov. 3, 1897 Pg. 2 Col. 5 Death of William Hutchinson. On Saturday, October 30th, at his home five miles north of town, Wm. Hutchinson, old in years are stricken in health, passed from this life. The immediate cause of his death seemed to be from an injury he received about three weeks ago of which we made notice at the time. For about fifty years Mr. Hutchinson has been a resident of this county, coming here from Pennsylvania. He was born in the parish of Coppie, Tyrone county, Ireland (sic. that location not available in the F/A/G location entry box), in 1813, and was married to Margaret Calhoun in 1837, coming to this country the same year and settling in Chester county, Pennsylvania. Of the three children born to them two are still living, Charles, the eldest, in Bowie, Texas, and Mrs. Matilda Sawyer, of Marshall, Minnesota, William having died about three years ago at the old home place (sic. where ??). His wife died and was buring January 1, 1848, and he was married for the second time to Salina Powell (sic). Four children were born of this union, tow of them dying while still very young; J. J. Hutchinson, of this county, and Mrs. Ann Coop, of Lacynge, Kansas, survive both their parents, their mother having died in January, 1881. The funeral services were conducted at his old home by Rev. E. M. Snook Monday morning at ten o'clock and the remains wer intered (sic) in the Antioch cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by his old friends and neighbors, by whom he will be greatly missed. He was a kindly and good man.
