He came to America with his parents when he was 7 years old. They settled near Shellsberg, Wisconsin. He served with Co. I, 3rd Volunteer Infantry and was involved in battles at Antietam, Malvern Hill, Harrison's Landing and Gettysburg. On February 20, 1866, William married Sarah Bateman. They were the parents of: Anna, William G., Aylmer, Christopher, J. Walker and Daisy (later Worcester). They farmed near Argyle and Darlington, Wisconsin before coming to Ireton in 1884. They lived and farmed south of Ireton for 30 years before Will's death.
