Beer died suddenly at his home in this city Monday morning, Sept. 14th, from heart trouble. He had not been well since the excitement occasioned by the recent accident when his two daughters were injured in a runaway, but was able to be around. Shortly before noon Monday he went to the barn to feed his horse, and when he did not return after a time his daughter, Miss Eva, became anxious and went to the barn and found him dead where he had fallen. The funeral services were held from the residence Wednesday afternoon, and were conducted by Rev. Chas. A. Kitch of the Methodist church. Interment was in Larned cemetery. William Jefferson Beer was born in Fulton county, Ill., Nov. 17, 1838, and was aged 75 years, 9 months and 27 days at the time of his death. He was married to Margaret Ann Athearn in Fulton county, Ill., Oct. 4, 1860. To this union five children were born, three of whom survive, Eva L. Beer, Mrs. Jay Wood and William A. Beer, all of Larned. His wife died on Dec. 16th, 1912. He moved with his family to Kansas in 1904, settling at Larned, which has been the home since. In 1910 Mr. and Mrs. Beer celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, and had lived together fifty-two years at the time of her death. Mr. Beer was a kind, Christian gentleman and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He was a true friend and a kind neighbor, and his death is a loss to the whole community.
