William John Vanderlinden, youngest son of William and Johanna Van Beek was born near Pella, Iowa, Nov 3, 1869 and passed away at his home 5 miles north of Pulaski, at 1:45 a.m. August 3, 1924, age 54 years and 9 months. At the tender age of 9 months he with one brother and one sister were left motherless; he was adopted into the family of Mr and Mrs Leonard Vanderlinden and was raised with a large family of children. At 19years of age he confessed Christ as his Savior and was baptized by a First Reformed minister. He remained a faithful follower of his Savior until the summons came; he often quoted and sang the song, "Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus" and assured his friends who came to see him that his trust was in Jesus. Mr Vanderlinden lived near Pella, until 15 years ago when he moved to Eddyville, Iowa. After spending five years near there he moved to his late home north of Pulaski, where he resided until his death. About three years ago he suffered an attack of the flu and heart trouble resulted which brought his life's work to a close, when life should have been at its highest tide. On July 10th, 1900, he was united in marriage to Margaret B Smorenburg; and to this union were born three sons and two daughters were born, namely: Leonard William, Cornie Wilfred, Wilma Jean, Marion Edward and Margaret Beatrice, all of whom were present at his bedside when the end came. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife and children and the following named brothers and sisters; Mrs T VanLutenhuizen of Edgerton, Minn.; Mrs J T McCracken of Durham, N. Carolina; May, Anna, Geoden and Marmus Vanderlinden of Ames, Iowa; John Vanderlinden of Des Moines and Harry Vanderlinden of Virginia. The following named brothers and sisters preceded him in death, Henry Van Beck, Mrs T Vander Meyden, Mrs Will Austin and Christina. Mr Vanderlinden has always made farming his vocation; he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and while he could never see his way clear to unite with any religious body, he most usually worshipped with the Baptist denomination due largely perhaps of the fact that his companion was affiliated with that body. He was well versed in the scripture, being much of a student in the Word of God. It was a source of pleasure to converse with him about the Bible as he was so familiar with its teachings. The verse of scripture that he so frequently quoted during his long illness was "Come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." Short services were held at the home and funeral services held at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Luther W. Childs of Blakesburg, Iowa. A quartette from the Pulask M E Church, composed of Mrs J E Mathews, Miss Lucille Fordemwalt, Miss Kate Yost and Mrs. Clyde Rees with Mrs Pearl Swan as accompanist furnished the music. The body was tenderly laid away in the Rouch Cemetery to await the resurrection morn. "And I heard a voice from Heaven saying unto me write Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea saith the Spirit. That they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them."
