Ahern, son of William P. and Anna Culhan Ahern, former long time residents of Frankfort, Kansas, passed away October 10, 1985, , at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, California. He was seventy-three years old. William, known to all in Frankfort as Willie Joe, was born on his parents' farm three miles south of Frankfort. He began his school years at Flag Rural School. Later, the family moved into Frankfort, where his father operated a cream, egg and poultry business. He attended and graduated from Annunciation Grade School. Ahern, son of William P. and Anna Culhan Ahern, former long time residents of Frankfort, Kansas, passed away October 10, 1985, , at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, California. He was seventy-three years old. William, known to all in Frankfort as Willie Joe, was born on his parents' farm three miles south of Frankfort. He began his school years at Flag Rural School. Later, the family moved into Frankfort, where his father operated a cream, egg and poultry business. He attended and graduated from Annunciation Grade School. He delivered the then Frankfort Daily Index, as did three of his brother; Leo, Clarence and Jim. He graduated from Frankfort High School with the class of 1931. While in high school, he excelled in sports: basketball, football and track. He also played on the Frankfort town baseball team. William moved with his parents to Sacramento, California in 1938. That year he married Esther Smith from Waterville, Kansas. From this union one dughter, Judy Ann Ahern, was born. William was assigned to the Eighth Air Force in England during World War II. After his discharge in 1945, he was employed for twenty-six years at Swift Meat Packing Company of Sacramento. After his retirement, he owned and operated the Fin and Pen pet shop. He was a member of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, John, Clarence and Leo. He is survived by Esther, his wife of forty-seven years; a daughter, Judy Ahern Jones; granddaughters Donna Suitor [Suiter] Nancy Suitor [Suiter] and Julia Ahern; a sister, Mary Burner, San Jose, California; and a brother, James Ahern of Sacramento, California. Rosary was recited at Andrew Grelich Funeral Home in Sacramento on Sunday, October 13th, 1985, at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial at Saint Anne's Catholic Church was on Monday, October 14, 1985, at 10:30 a.m. Military honors at graveside were conducted by the Sacramento Veteran Affiliated Council.
