Description	:	William Leroy Cook, known to his friends as Bill, was born on October 1, 1952 at the Rock County Hospital in Bassett, Nebraska to Jim and Esther (Rose) Cook. Bill grew up on the family farm near rural Mills, Nebraska, where he attended grade school through the eighth grade. Then Bill attended high school at Key Paha County High School, graduating in 1970. Read More	William Leroy Cook, known to his friends as Bill, was born on October 1, 1952 at the Rock County Hospital in Bassett, Nebraska to Jim and Esther (Rose) Cook. Bill grew up on the family farm near rural Mills, Nebraska, where he attended grade school through the eighth grade. Then Bill attended high school at Key Paha County High School, graduating in 1970. Bill was baptized and confirmed on January 30, 1972 at Grace Lutheran Church in burton, NE. He married Marcia (Higgins) Cook on January 6, 1973. On February 14, 1973, Bill voluntarily went into active duty in the U.S. Army. During this time he was stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma and Fort Leonardwood in Missouri, where he was working with Pershing missile systems. Bill was honorable discharged on August 29, 1974. After the military Bill farmed in the Mills, NE area until his passing. Bill was a past school board member of District 3 in Keya Paha County. At the time of his passing he was an active member of the Cenex board, Olive Branch Cemetery Board, and election board for Keya Paha County. Bill and Marcia had four children, son Justin James was born March 10, 1974; identical twin sons, Chandler Wade and Austin Scott born January 29, 1977; and daughter Chere Ann born January 5, 1982. Bill enjoyed welding machining, mechanics and ranching. He loved to work on the farm. He also loved spending time with family and friends and told the best stories. He was a very loving father and attended all of the events. He looked forward to the Army reunion every three years over the Fourth of July. He was always willing to stop what he was working on to help neighbors, friends, and family. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Elton and Jerry Lee; and by his grandparents, Taylor and Catherine Rose, and Fern and Charles Cook. Bill passed away as the result of a farm accident on July 22, 2004 at the age of 51 years, while fulfilling on of his lifelong passions, farming. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the Gregory Memorial Auditorium in Gregory Memorial Auditorium m in Gregory, South Dakota. Registration was taken by Carol and Havor Heyden, Sandra and Greg Swan, and Mary and Keith Ellwanger. Flower attendants were Ruth Gessner, Dixie Nilson, Rita Stoeger, Helen Rowan, and Kathy Svoboda. Eulogy was given by Larry Shepperd, and obituary was read by Doug Shepperd. Military honors were by Springview American Legion Post #98, and interment was in Olive Branch Cemetery at Mills, Nebraska.
