No funeral arrangements have been made. ******************* Emporia Gazette, Thursday, 13 January 1944; p. 2, c. 3 The Diggs Funeral Friday Funeral services for William Diggs, 809 Congress, prominent Lyon county retired stockman, who died Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Newman Memorial County hospital, where he had been a patient since Friday, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Roberts-Blue Funeral home. The Rev. Claude G. Large, of Mission, former pastor of the First Christian church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery. Mr. Diggs was born April 6, 1856 at Warren, Ill., the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Diggs. He married Ellnora Peacock, February 19, 1882 at Earlham, Iowa. They started housekeeping on a farm near Warren, Ill., and lived on a farm in Missouri before they moved to Kansas. In 1903 they bought the old Fred Harvey ranch, 18 miles southwest of Emporia. Later they moved from the ranch to a farm west of Emporia. In 1907 they moved to Emporia. Mrs. Diggs died March 27, 1935. Mr. Diggs was a stockman and farmer, but retired from the business 25 years ago. Mr. Diggs is survived by two sons, Wilfred H. Diggs, Route 5, Emporia, and Elroy Diggs, Kalvesta; two daughters, Miss Eva Diggs, county Welfare Director at Ellsworth, and Mrs. Laura B. Royer, of the home; one half sister, Charlotte Baine, Winslow, Ill. Mr. Diggs was a member of the First Christian church and a member of the Masonic lodge A.F. and A.M. ********************* Emporia Gazette, Saturday, 15 January 1944; p. 2, c. 2 Rites for W. L. Diggs Funeral services for William Lester Diggs, 809 Congress, who died Wednesday at the Newman Memorial County hospital, were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Roberts-Blue Funeral home. The Rev. Claude G. Large, former pastor of the First Christian church, but now of Mission, had charge of the services. Marshall Randal sang, accompanied by Miss Connie Brown. The pallbearers were: Tom Owes, Charles Rickard, A.H. Smith, W.T. Crawford, Loy Clausen and Ralph Moon. Burial was in Memorial Lawn cemetery. Out of two friends and relatives who attended the services were: Miss Eva Marie Diggs, Ellsworth; Elroy Diggs, Kalvesta; T. Sgt. Willis L. Diggs, Camp Phillips; T. Sgt. Charles W. Diggs, Ft. Logan, Colo.; and Alfred Walton, Marysville, Mo. The grandchildren who were unable to attended were Mrs. Keith Pendergraft, Ponca City; Mrs. Warren Davis, Marysville, and Mrs. Carl Warner, Kalvesta.
