Mr. Diggs said his father, the late W. L. Diggs, bought the house and ranch from Volney and Ralph Wright in 1903 and the Diggs family moved there in the fall of that year. "The house was in its prime then," said Mr. Diggs, "and it still contained the original Harvey furnishings and silverware. The modern bathroom was in good working order. I am really sorry to learn the house has been abandoned and neglected." As a boy Diggs hunted and fished and thoroughly enjoyed his six years on the ranch. The Diggs family sold the ranch to a family named Dodds. Diggs recalled that the carriage house in use during his stay on the ranch was originally an ice house and contained a refrigerator, one of the first in this section of Kansas. He also remembers a large cattle barn, containing modern equipment, including scales. A large stone barn was originally a cheese factory, he said.
