Description	:	The ranks of Tehama County's Civil War veterans had been further thinned today by the death of William Martin Davis, aged 92 years, ten months and 16 days, at the home of his son, C. W. Davis of the Bend district, where he had resided since last April. Death came following an illness from which the aged veteran had been bedfast for more than 6 months. Davis of the Bend district, where he had resided since last April. Death came following an illness from which the aged veteran had been bedfast for more than 6 months. It was not until a few days ago, however, that his condition became critical and it was seen that death was near. The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Fickert chapel. The Rev. George W. Morris , pastor of the Christian church, will officiate. The flag service will also be held at the chapel by members of Westlake Circle. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery where a firing squad made up of Spanish War veterans will fire a salute over the grave. The remains will be carried to their last resting place by six of the eight sons of the deceased. They are John L. Davis, Bend; H. P. Davis, Meridian; S. I. Davis, Springfield, Oregon; C. W. and F. P. Davis, Bend, and L. W. Davis, Bakersfield. The other sons are Arthur E. Davis, Bordman, Oregon, who will be unable to be here for the services and W. C. Davis, Bend. The deceased was a native of Indiana where he was born February 29, 1840, being a leap year baby. The family later moved to Iowa where he enlisted in Co. E39th Iowa Volunteers August 15, 1862. He was discharged on February 19, 1863 due to disability suffered in the service. After his marriage Davis moved with his family to Oregon where they lived a number of years before coming to California. He was one of the early settlers in the Bend district, purchasing a ranch there 38 years ago. Mrs. Davis passed away in 1921 and he later moved to Red Bluff.
