His mother was the daughter of Jacob Gallup, and Rebecca Morgan of Groton, New London, Connecticut. He'd moved with his parents to Wilna, Jefferson County New York by 1836. He was the son of Oliver Dodge, and Temperance Gallup. His mother was the daughter of Jacob Gallup, and Rebecca Morgan of Groton, New London, Connecticut. He'd moved with his parents to Wilna, Jefferson County New York by 1836. He married 1st., Elizabeth M. Colburn, the daughter of Orlin Colburn, and Eliza Laura Gates on March 22, 1852, in Wilna, Jefferson, New York. He married 2nd Julia Jones, December 27, 1864, in Wilna, Jefferson, New York. He was a farmer. He moved to Madison, Virginia before 1870, and then to Dawson County, Nebraska before 1880, with his 2nd wife and all living children except for Nettie, who remained with her Colburn grandparents in Wilna, until she came of age. He died after April 24, 1881, (when he is named as witness in the marriage of son William Oliver to Mary Isabelle Cole; they were married at his home), and before the 1885 Nebraska State Census, where his wife Julia is found living with her daughters Permilla and Temperance. Although his death date, and burial location are unknown, I am confidant he died in Dawson County, where his wife, children, and grandchildren lived. Many of his family members, including his oldest son William, are buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, next to where Mount Hope Church (Methodist) once stood, and where William Sr., is likely buried. Many of the stones are missing. Today the cemetery is a field, with few remaining stones. I have been unable to find the Mount Hope Church records. I put William in this cemetery, because it is reasonable to assume he is buried here, along with his family, and until I learn otherwise will leave him here. He had three children with 1st wife Elizabeth Colburn: 1. William Oliver Dodge who married Mary Isabelle Cole (their gravestone was mistakenly added to this page.) 2. Lucius F. Dodge who died at age 12. 3. Nettie R. Dodge who married Willis A. Hammond His wife Elizabeth died in 1863. Daughter Olivia went to live with her grandparents (Colburn's) after the death of her mother, then joined her father later in Dawson County, Nebraska. Children with his 2nd wife Julia Jones: 4. Frederick Dodge who died young 5. Permila Dodge who married Edward E. Tomlinson 6. Temperance Amelia Dodge, b. 1880 in Dawson County, Nebraska. m. William Justice Akin His son Lucius died in 1870, and some time after that date he moved with his wife and family, they are found on the 1870 census in Madison, Caroline, Virginia and in 1880 in Dawson County, Nebraska.
