William Peter Hamilton (named for both grandfathers) became the son of Charles Hamilton, originally from County Tyrone, North Ireland and Margaret (Olsen) Hamilton who was raised in Bennett, Nebraska. Most of his first two years, they lived in a two-story house on Highway 92. They moved then to the farm on Blue Creek NW of Lewellen, where he lived most of his life. William Peter Hamilton (named for both grandfathers) became the son of Charles Hamilton, originally from County Tyrone, North Ireland and Margaret (Olsen) Hamilton who was raised in Bennett, Nebraska. Most of his first two years, they lived in a two-story house on Highway 92. They moved then to the farm on Blue Creek NW of Lewellen, where he lived most of his life. On the farm, he raised cattle, pigs and had nearly 100 head of sheep. In the U.S. Navy, he was on a destroyer repair ship. There he worked with sheet metal and welding. He farmed both NW of Lewellen and some on the Berglund farm, west of Oshkosh. He attended Universal Trade School in Omaha in about 1966 for his mechanic training. He hand stacked train cars of feed sacks at night while in school. He had Hamilton Repair open in the farm shop. He and some of the older sons helped build the sod house in Ash Hollow. He had a covered wagon in the Ash Hollow Nebraska Centennial. It's the wagon used yet in the Ash Hollow Pageant. The family went west in it for three days on the Oregon Trail for an article in Nebraskaland magazine. He and Jack Seibert lived in a camper and helped build the missile silos in Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska. One year his crops were hailed and he worked on a road crew near Ansley. He worked at Oshkosh Feedyard, Midwec and Marshalltown for 16 years (which is now Cabela's) and also a sugar factory in Colorado. He was the main character several years for Lewellen Christmas parties until he couldn't hear the little kids well enough. He loved to be in parades with horse-powered corn Sheller and a John Deere 40. In retirement, he has restored a Currie windmill, a wooden freight wagon and a 1922 Fordson tractor. He was about half done with a second Fordson. His next plan was to restore a horse buggy. He was a member of the American Legion in Lewellen, Lions Club and Assembly of God Church. Bill was 78 years old and married for 58 years. He leaves here his wife, Ruth; children, Kathryn Hain, Dan, John and Roger and their spouses; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Barbara Gillett of Omaha and many friends and relatives. He is now with his oldest son, Jim, in heaven because both had verbally asked Jesus into their lives. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me". There will be no services or distant family here now in wintertime.
