Read More	RHODA, WILLIAM—William Rhoda, fifth son of the late Frederick and Sophia Rhoda, was born in Muscatine County, Iowa, near the town of Atlissa, February 25, 1866. He departed this life September 16, 1947, at his home near Ohiowa, Neb., aged 81 years, 6 months and 21 days. In his early childhood, the family moved to La Porte, Ind., residing there about ten years. When he was fourteen, his father died, leaving the mother to bring her family of six children to Fillmore County, Nebraska in the fall of 1880, to settle on the land which their father had previously purchased. They slowly improved the land and endured the hardships all pioneer families experienced in building a new country. December 14, 1893, he was united in marriage to Bessie Rue Mullikin. They immediately established a home on the farm of his brother Frank, living there untilthe fall of 1899, when a new home was built on the site where he spent the past forty-eight years, with the exception of two years when the family lived in Ohiowa. To this union were born four children, a son, who ied in infancy, and three daughters, Lillie C., S. Helen, and Edna A. Mr. and Mrs. Rhoda celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1943, at their home with their family and friends. His infant son, father and mother, infant brother and sister, Marshall and Sophia, his brothers Frank in 1920, Charlie in 1927 and David in 1938, preceded him in death. Mr. Rhoda lived an active and useful life, filled with work and industry, giving the best of his days and strength, to the building of his home. He was a loyal husband and a devoted father. His four grandchildren were his pride and joy, seeming to renew his youth as he watched them grow and develop. He was truly a child of nature, loving the fields and streams, taking keen enjoyment in hunting and fishing, making a trip annually to northwestern Nebraska, where he enjoyed his favorite sport. He leaves to cherish hi memory, his devoted wife Bessie, three daughters, Lillie C. at home, Mrs. S Helen Lewis of Denver, Col. And Mrs. Edna Eich of Geneva, four grandchildren, Lowell E. William E. Rhoda Pearle and Bobbie Jene Eich; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Bell and Miss Ella Rhoda, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Rhoda was never a man of rugged health and for several years his strength had gradually declined. Tuesday morning, September 16, he was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage, which claimed his life in a few hours. Funeral services in charge of Rev. Maude V. Mann of the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Geneva were held Friday, September 19, from the home at 1:45 p.m. and from the Kritner Funereal Home at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Miss Mann and Mrs. Oscar Nelson sang “In the Sweet Bye and Bye,” “Beyond the Sunset” and “God Be with You Till We Meet Again.” The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The pallbearers were John Svoboda, Emil Bernasek, Clarence Higel, Roy H. Miller, Richard Sieber and John Nun. Relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. S. Helen Lewis of Denver, Col; Dr. and Mrs. R. E. Bell of Beatrice; Charles Bell of Wichita, Kas.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rhoda, Donnie and Janet of York; Dr. and Mrs. D. B. Mullikin of Chester; Mrs. Ida Mitchell of Ellsworth, Kas.; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mullikin of Los Angeles, Cal; John Lautenschlager and Robert B. Walker of Carleton.
