Roberts Dead William Roberts was born in Boone County, Indiana, March 26, 1840 and died at his home near May Day, December 13, 1912. The direct cause of death was heart trouble. Mr. Roberts was the oldest of a family of seven children, two of whom have preceded him to the better land. Three sisters, Mrs. John Mitchell, Mrs. Wm. Clark and Mrs. Walter Slingley (should be Slingsby), all of whom live near Green survive him. He was married to Miss Rena Jones February 16, 1869, at Montpeller, Wells County, Indiana. To this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters, all of whom are living. In the spring of 1870 he came with his wife to Kansas. Being one of the pioneer settlers of Riley, having homesteaded land near May Day, where by thrift and industry he has gained for his family a nice home and comfortable maintenance. In the loss of Mr. Roberts the family loses a kind, devoted husband and father, the community a kind friend and neighbor, who will be missed by all who knew him. He lived a clean, conscientious, moral life, discharging every duty faithfully that came to him and , died fully trusting in a Savior's love. Funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday morning by Rev Williams of Green, after which interment was made at the People's cemetery(Fancy Creek Cemetery), north of Green. The bereaved family have the deepest sympathy of the entire community.
