Read More	Civil War Veteran 9th Iowa Cavalry Company A Courtesy - Rich (#48591645) ** Adams County Union-Republican Wednesday, November 5, 1916 William Ross Wilson was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, August 26th, 1844 and died November 3, 1916, aged 72 years, 2 months, and 7 days. When eleven years of age, he moved with his parents to Cedar County, Iowa, and lived there several years. In March 1867, he was united in marriage to Sarah J. Crammer of Johnson County. To this union, seven children were born. One daughter died in infancy and the other six children with the faithful wife are left to mourn his departure. Mr. Wilson also leaves on brother, nearly 90 years old, living at West Liberty, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Ben Herr, of West Liberty, and Mrs. Joe Lane, of Des Moines. The two sisters and their husbands were here to attend the funeral. The children are: Matthew Wilson of Prescott; Mrs. Edith Young of Beatrice, Nebraska; Mrs. Maud Carey of Lorimor; Mrs. Lou Johnson of Prescott; Mrs. Ruth Florence, of Broadland, South Dakota; George Wilson, of Prescott. All were present at the funeral. There are ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Wilson confessed in his faith in Christ at the age of 18 and united with the Baptist Church. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge and also a Mason. Mr. Wilson was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted in 1863 and came home in 1865. He was a member of Company A, 9th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry. The funeral was held Sunday, November 5, 1916, at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. J.P. Weber, of the M.E. church. The singing was by a quartette, Mrs. Ada Stahl, Miss Natalie Johnson, William Perkins, and Earl Britton. The Masons, about thirty attending in a body and one of their members gave a talk, and their services were concluded at the grave. The flowers were profuse and beautiful. Amid the glory of a Sabbath afternoon the body was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery. Contributor: Diane Decker
