Read More	Obituary: Cambridge City Tribune, Cambridge City, Indiana, June 12, 1902 The sudden death of William Sherman Binkley, last Friday evening, was received with regret by his wide circle of friends, which included every one that knew him. The transition of his life to the land of the Lethe was seemingly but one step across the imperceptible frontier, yet it left behind him "the tattered tent of grief where-through god's light doth shine." The stern and silent usher that leads to the judgment for eternity, after the brief trial scene of time, bade him follow, and surrounded by the friends he loved, be serenely-passed from view. - Those closely identified with his life during the last years, at least, feel deeply the sorrow caused by his early removal from earth. His was always a cheerful spirit--a spirit that made others glad and the world better. His life was the gentle elements of nature, music flattered him to tears, and "the little children of the meadows" evoked the tenderest sensibilities of his soul. -- William Sherman Binkley was born January 27, 1867, in Dublin, Ind., and died very suddenly June 6, 1902, in the Odd Fellows hall, where he had hone to attend the regular weekly meeting of that order. His age was 35 years, 4 months and 10 days. - His entire life was passed in Dublin, and from the day of his birth he lived at the old homestead. His occupation was that of printer, although in his boyhood he began by serving the people of Dublin with newspapers, the same tine attending school. He served an apprenticeship in the office of the Wayne Register at Dublin, and for ten years was employed in the office of the Cambridge City TRIBUNE, where he was esteemed for his industry and his honesty. He was clerk of the Dublin town board, and discharged his duties promptly and efficiently. On February 14, 1893, he was married to Miss Margaret E. Swartzel, his neighbor and former schoolmate. His faithfulness in the two orders of which he was a member was a striking feature of his life. He was a member of Logan tribe No. 105, Imp'd O.R.M., passed through all the chairs and received all the honors. For the past four years he served as Chief of Records. His father, John Binkley, was an Odd Fellow, and it was fitting to his memory that the son should become a member. He was initiated into Olive Branch lodge No. 89, January 14, 1898, and in due season passed the chairs and received all the honors. As the presiding officer of the lodge, his decisions were impartial and he always tried to have the members act in harmony, and was ever ready to answer any call that might in any way benefit the order. Music was one of the pleasures of his life, band music being a favorite. In the days when the Dublin cornet band was an organization he was a member and a zealous worker in its interest. During his brief and eventful life he was ever an upright and honorable man, generous in heart and kind in spirit. With his wife there are left behind to mourn their loss his stepfather, D.P. Demree, his mother, Sarah Demree, two brothers and one sister. ---------- The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon from the home of his parents in Dublin. Rev. George Floyd, a neighbor and warm friend, spoke feelingly of the deceased and his many good traits of character, the choir sweetly rendered his favorite songs, and the public paid a last tribute to the dead. The Odd Fellows and Red Men to the number of several hundred, headed by the Cambridge City band, escorted the remains to the east cemetery where with appropriate honors they were laid to rest beside his kindred. The casket was covered with beautiful floral offerings from loving friends. -----------
