Stacy Bruce Electrocuted. Chico Boy in Fatal Accident While Working for Nogales Power Firm. Mr. and Mrs. John Bruce, 1147 Lotus street, received word yesterday of the electrocution of their son, William Stacy Bruce, in Nogales, Ariz., while in the employ of the Nogales Power Company. Bruce was a member of the Supply Company of the Second Regiment at the time of the border trouble, having enlisted here in June. He was discharged at Nogales following the physical examination, when it was found that a broken ankle incapacitated him for service. Bruce came in contact with a high tension wire while repairing a transformer. A pulmotor [a device used to inflate and deflate the lungs during resuscitation] was used for three hours but to no avail. Bruce had been unfortunate since he was discharged from the army. He accidentally killed Frank Wright, a hunting companion, on the border, recently. He was twenty-eight years old and a native of Chico. Surviving are the mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. John Bruce, and two sisters, Mrs. Gus Manes of Chico and Mrs. H.W. Howard of Hamilton City. The remains will be brought here for burial, but the time of their arrival is not yet known. ~~~ Chico Daily Record, Sunday Morning, March 25, 1917, pg 7 col 2: Stacey [note spelling] Bruce Funeral To Be Held Tomorrow. The funeral of William Stacey Bruce, who was electrocuted recently at Nogales, Airz., will be held tomorrow afternoon at the family home, 1147 Lotus street, Chapmantown. Dr. O.E. Hart of the Presbyterian church will conduct the services at the home, and those at the grave will be conducted by the Loyal Order of Moose, of which the deceased was a member. Interment will be made in Chico.
