Officiating was the Rev Robert H Crewdson. Burial directed by Johnson Graham Funeral Home was in the churchyard cemetery. Mr Doar 86 a retired educator died Friday May 26 1989 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Mr Doar was born on April 14 1903 in Georgetown where he lived all of his life. He was the son of John Walter Doar and Elizabeth Black Doar. He attended Winyah Grammar School and was a graduate of Winyah HIgh School and the University of South Carolina where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was a teacher of history at Winyah High School for 10 years. He was involved in the invasion of Iwo Jima and served wit the Navy during World War II for 40 months leaving the service as Lieutenant Commander. After the war he became active in veteran's affairs. He was president of a non profit housing corporation organized by the VFW Commander of Post 114 American Legion and Chef de Gare of Georgetown Vioture of 40 and 8. He was the oldest member of the Winyah Indigo Society having served as its secretary treasurer for 11 years Senior Warden for two terms and for two terms. He served on the Georgetown City Council for two terms. Mr Doar was a member of the Georgetown Historical Society and a communicant of Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church. Surviving are his widow Mrs Julia Beckman Poag Doar of Georgetown; a daughter Mrs Amaryllis D Zajkowski of Columbia; a sister Mrs Elizabeth D Ness, Mrs Julia D Stalvey and Miss Amaryllis Marion Doar all of Georgetown. Memorial may be made to Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church or to the charity of one's choice.
