Description	:	Georgetown Times February 28 1947 JW Doar Died Tuesday John Walter Doar 76 died Tuesday at his home here after a short illness. Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church of which he was a member conducted by the Rev H D Bull rector. Read More	Georgetown Times February 28 1947 JW Doar Died Tuesday John Walter Doar 76 died Tuesday at his home here after a short illness. Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church of which he was a member conducted by the Rev H D Bull rector. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Doar was born here the son of John Watts and Emma C. Doar. He attended the free schools of Georgetown and early in life became interested in newspaper work; his first job being with the Georgetown Times at the age of 14. He was alter associated with newspapers in Columbia Augusta Savannah and New Orleans. He returned to Georgetown in 1900 and organized the Outlook Printing Company and was editor and publisher of the Outlook, weekly newspaper for many years. In 1909 he reorganized the first bank in Andrew then known as Rosemary under the firm name J W Doar and Company and operated a real estate insurance business with his banking service. Mr. Doar was active in the development and incorporation of Andrews. During this period he was a delegate to the house of representatives later serving as county superintendent of education for ten years and postmaster for four years. Mr. Doar was also manager of the re employment office at one time. He also farmed and managed Kensington Plantation which he owned. He was a member of several fraternal organizations. At his death he was senior warder of the Winyah Indigo Society and grands chancellor of the Knights of Pythias. He was a Mason, Elk, Odd Fellow and Woodman. In 1901 he married Miss Elizabeth Black. They had two children William Walter Doar, Georgetown merchant and Mrs. J. W. Nielson Jr of Charleston; a adopted son Bachman Doar of Norfolk Va; a brother EM Doar of Georgetown and a sister Mrs E. C. Welling of Charleston.
