Born Oct. 28, 1919, in Nelson County, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Reuby Smith Boyd. Mr. Boyd was a veteran of the Air Force, having served during World War II as a sergeant. He worked as a salesman at Blue Ridge Grocery, where he retired after 32 years. He was a member of Rodes United Methodist Church, and later of the Waynesboro First Presbyterian Church. "Bill" Boyd, 89, of Waynesboro, passed away May 29, 2009 at the Stuarts Draft Christian Home. Born Oct. 28, 1919, in Nelson County, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Reuby Smith Boyd. Mr. Boyd was a veteran of the Air Force, having served during World War II as a sergeant. He worked as a salesman at Blue Ridge Grocery, where he retired after 32 years. He was a member of Rodes United Methodist Church, and later of the Waynesboro First Presbyterian Church. He was active in the Rockfish Valley Ruritan Club. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Blandine Mitchell Boyd; and two sisters, Mary Meredith Boyd and Elizabeth Bowling Boyd. Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Baylor Boyd, of the Stuarts Draft Christian Home; a son, Thomas Mitchell Boyd and wife, Joan, of Eugene, Ore.; three grandchildren, Brevin Balfrey-Boyd, Katie Boyd, and Ian Boyd; and one great grandchild, Jackson Davis Balfrey-Boyd. A funeral service was held Tuesday at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with the Rev. Dr. Glen Holman officiating. Private interment was at Jonesboro Baptist Church Cemetery. Note: Williams' first wife, Blandine Mitchell Boyd died April 23, 1984 and is buried in Rodes United Methodist Church Cemetery.
