Description	:	William Yancy YORK is the first son of ten children born to Larkin Culberson "Charlie" YORK and his wife Sophia "Tilly" KIVETT. It is interesting to note that Larkin's first-born son William Yancy YORK had been involved in troublesome polygamous activities with three different women following the time of his father's death on 13 March 1844. It is interesting to note that Larkin's first-born son William Yancy YORK had been involved in troublesome polygamous activities with three different women following the time of his father's death on 13 March 1844. There is no doubt this caused many family conflicts, blame and the short 31 years of life for William Yancy YORK. It is not clear what caused these marital relationships of William Yancy York. Were they the results of his grief or guilt over the loss of his father? Did anger, depression or alcoholism consume him? It is only speculation that he may have had remorse or mental torment for some involvement in a hunting or farm accident that caused his father's premature death. The mayhem that occurred in the life of William Yancy YORK is most dramatic with his three quick relationships following his father's death. It is difficult to understand what really occurred. It is so sad to comprehend the disruption and hurt that must have come into this family after Larkin YORK and William Yancy YORK's premature deaths. The first marriage of William Yancy YORK occurred in 1844 with his second cousin once removed, Mary "Polly" YORK. They were the parents of three children: 1. Mary YORK, b. 1845 NC; d. aft 1860 NC. 2. America "Merika" YORK, b. 1846 NC; d. 1922 NC. 3. James Terrell YORK, b. 1850 NC; d. 1934 NC. For several reasons his wife Mary "Polly" YORK gave up the three children to Tabitha York SAVAGE per the 1850 Census. They are living with Tabitha in Randolph County in the 1860 census. Why did Mary "Polly" YORK remarry a second time to Stephen W IVEY on 3 November 1850 just eight months after her son James Terrell YORK was born on 24 March 1850? Most likely, it was the discovery and humiliation that her first husband was having an extramarital relationship and having out of wedlock, children with Mary Lucy WRIGHT, while being married to herself. The children born to William Yancy YORK and the teenage Mary Lucy WRIGHT were: 1. Angeline York, b. 1846 NC; d. aft 1860 2. John Wesley "Wes" YORK, b. 30 Jan 1848 NC; d. 08 Aug 1929 NC The third marriage of William Yancy YORK documented with a Randolph County marriage bond on 30 August 1846 with Mary Ann MYRIC was a diversion. This also may have been just a cover up for his extramarital relationship with Mary Lucy Wright. Mary Ann MYRICK soon learned about the polygamous activities of her new husband William Yancy YORK. Mary Ann quickly left the marriage and joined a group of friends and neighbors in a wagon train going north to Morgan County, Indiana. Mary Ann MYRICK was married to her Randolph County, North Carolina neighbor Peter McCOLLUM on 20 December 1848 in Adams Township, Morgan County, Indiana, USA. They were the parents to eight children, all born in Indiana.
