Linn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Linn, Pawnee City, died at a hospital in Lincoln Monday. He had undergone an operation for appendicitis, other complications set in and death followed. He had been working in Lincoln and attending the State University, taking a medical course and was in his second year. He was born in Pawnee City, April 24, 1912, and was 19 years, 8 months and 23 days of age at the time of his death. He graduated from the Pawnee City schools in 1929. He was a member of the M. E. church, a worker in the Epworth League and Sunday school, and was a fine Christian young man. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, interment in the Pawnee City cemetery. He is survived by his parents, four brothers, other near relatives and many friends. ************************************** LaVon Linn Sets Up Scholarship Fund LINCOLN-A $50,000 endowed fund has been established in the university of Nebraska Foundation by Col. LaVon P. Linn of Arlington, Va., in memory of his brother. Harry P. Haynie, Foundation president, said the new scholarship fund will commemorate the life of Willis A. Linn, who died in 1931 while attending the University, a pre medical student from Pawnee City. He died at the age of 19 from an attack of appendicitis while in summer school. The donor, Col. Linn, a graduate of Pawnee City High School and of the University of Nebraska in 1938, earned a master's degree from George Washington University and is now in his second year of work on his doctorate at the University of Maryland in international relations. He served in the Pentagon for seven consecutive years prior to his recent retirement from the U. S. Army., three of those years with the Joint Chiefs of staff. Income from the endowed fund will support scholarships for high school graduations who have demonstrated exceptional ability to scholarship, citizenship, and leadership and who are in financial need. Special consideration will be given to graduates of those Nebraska high schools which are within a 60-mile radius of Pawnee City, Haynie said.
