Armstrong, 67, prominent farmer of route 2, died Sunday morning at St. Luke's hospital, Kansas City, Mo. He had submitted to surgery there Friday after being transferred from the Atchison hospital June 20. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the First Presbyterian church, the Rev. George White officiating. The casket will be in state at the church for an hour preceding services. Burial is to be in the Armstrong-Case cemetery north of Atchison. Masonic graveside services will be conducted by Arcana Lodge No. 31 of Doniphan, Richard Frances, lecturer. Pallbearers will be Carl Draper, Aaron Winzer, John Case, Don Prohaska, William Claflin and Perrin Symns. The family is receiving friends tonight at the Stanton Mortuary, from 7 to 8 o'clock. Memorials to the Brown County Day Care Center may be left at Stanton's. Born Oct. 15,1908, in Atchison county, Willis Armstrong was the son of Thomas P. and Estella Draper Armstrong. He attended Shannon grade school and Atchison High school. Mr. Armstrong and Vera Hawk of Effingham were married in 1934. He was employed for a year as a supervisor at the State Orphans Home before he and his wife began their farming operation north of Atchison. He initiated and was a prime motivator for organization of Rural Water District No. 2, north of town, and served on its board of directors for a number of years. He also was instrumental in clearing much of the bottom land and converting it to farming while, in cooperation with his brothers, he farmed St. Benedict's lands north of the city the past 25 years. He has served in county-city planning and cooperative projects. A member of First Presbyterian church in Atchison and of the Arcana Lodge at Doniphan, Mr. Armstrong was well known for his good and neighborly deeds and consideration for others. Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife, Vera, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Rod (Helen) Waser, Hiawatha; a son, Willis L. Armstrong, Jr., Chanute; three sisters, Miss Grace Armstrong, 410 Santa Fe Street, Mrs. Mary Stokes, Fairview, and Mrs. M. N. (Nellie) Hendrikson, Route 2; three brothers, Thomas of Lancaster and Arthur and Floyd Armstrong, both of Route 3, and five grandchildren.
