She died on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson Fuhrman Funeral Home in Graettinger. Wilma was born on April 19, 1918 in Graettinger, the daughter of Clarence Oscar and Emma Johannah (Luhman) Wikert. She grew up in Graettinger and graduated from Graettinger High School in 1936. Following her graduation from high school she attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, graduating in 1938. After working, raising a family and being an active church and community member, Wilma returned to college to earn her bachelors degree and attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, graduating in 1963. On May 26, 1944 Wilma was united in marriage to Robert Clifford Murray in Washington, D.C. Throughout her life, she was employed at United Airlines in San Francisco, Calif.; customer service for Carson-Prairie-Scott Department Store in Chicago, Illinois. and owned and operated the family owned Murray Variety Store in Graettinger. Her greatest love was teaching and she taught in the Speech and Hearing Clinic in DeKalb, Salix, Graettinger and for over 24 years in Spencer in the elemental school system. After retiring in 1983 from Spencer Schools she operated Fun Time Preschool in Graettinger. Wilma was a member of the United Methodist Church in Graettinger, PTA, JSEA and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, embroidering work and playing cards. Wilma is survived by two daughters, Mary Paris and her husband. Bill of Estherville and Barbara Conwell and her husband, Richard of Graettinger; five grandchildren; seven great grand children; one sister, Mildred Wallman of Sioux City and one brother, Richard Wikert and his wife, Martha of Fremont, Neb. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Ervin Wikert and one brother in-law, Garrett Wallman. In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorial contributions be made to Graettinger preschool, the Graettinger Library or the United Methodist Church in Graettinger.
