Description	:	Wilshire Riley Schroeder, son of Bernard Frederick and Margaretha Schroeder, was born at Garnavillo, Iowa, March 29, 1866. He passed away on Sept. 2, 1941, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 3 days. His boyhood and early manhood was spent at Garnavillo. Read More	Wilshire Riley Schroeder, son of Bernard Frederick and Margaretha Schroeder, was born at Garnavillo, Iowa, March 29, 1866. He passed away on Sept. 2, 1941, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 3 days. His boyhood and early manhood was spent at Garnavillo. In 1888, he came to Emmetsburg and was employed in the implement business with his brother, B. F. Schroeder, and brother-in-law, Henry Beckman. In 1893, he began to farm on the present Schroeder farm in Emmetsburg township. On July 14, 1897, he was united in marriage to Laura Gertrude Stillman, and they established their home on the Schroeder farm in Freedom township. Two children were born to this union, Bernard Francis and Mahala Gertrude. On March 1, 1941 they moved from the farm to their present home in Emmetsburg, where he enjoyed four years of well-earned rest and quiet. Mr. Schroeder has never been in good health and for the past year had been compelled frequently to rest because of a weak heart. He complained of unusual weakness preceding his death, and was mowing his lawn on that morning. He passed away quietly, sitting in his chair listening to the news on the radio at about 5:45 in the afternoon. His immediate family left to mourn his death are his devoted wife, Mrs. W. R. Schroeder, the two children and their families, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Schroeder, Rosemary and Billy, of Ruthven, and Mrs. and Mrs. T. E. Lockwood. Teddy and Jimmy of Pomeroy, and one brother, J.C. Schroeder, of Emmetsburg. Mr. Schroeder was a member of the local Methodist church. He was of a retiring nature and enjoyed most his home, his family and his work. While himself not active in community affairs he was always willing that his family should be and was ready to sacrifice personally to further their activities. His sense of honesty, fair dealing and devotion to his work were indelible in his character and his disapproval of other than that was un-mistakable. His devotion to the memory of his own mother, and his kindness to his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Stillman, who preceded him ten days in death, will always be held in reverence by those who are left behind. Among the out-of-town relatives present at the funeral services were Homer Stratemeyer and Mrs. Stanford Arts of Carroll; Mrs. R.H. Stratemeyer, Mr. and Mrs. E. Fredrickson and father of Lake City, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Ellison, Charles Ellison and Ernest Ellison of Elbow Lake, Minn. ; Miss Frances Ellison, Minneapolis, Minn.; Miss Ethel Smith and Boyd Smith of Waukon; Miss Nellie Tisdale, Mr. and Mrs. Art Wendel and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jenkins of Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. L.P.
