Description	:	Winona May (Black) King, 91, of Central City, died on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Central City Care Center. Winona was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Central City to Earl and Bertha (Peregrine) Black. She married Ivan F. King on Feb. 23, 1937. He died July 20, 2009. Survivors are: her children, Charlotte and Jay R. Burruss of Clarks, Marlene and Bill Fleischer of Gothenburg and Wayne King of Lady Lake, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Celia Black of Central City and a host of friends and relatives. Winona was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Central City to Earl and Bertha (Peregrine) Black. She married Ivan F. King on Feb. 23, 1937. He died July 20, 2009. Survivors are: her children, Charlotte and Jay R. Burruss of Clarks, Marlene and Bill Fleischer of Gothenburg and Wayne King of Lady Lake, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Celia Black of Central City and a host of friends and relatives. Winona grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School in 1936. Winona and Ivan lived in Grand Island while Ivan was attending college and Winona cleaned houses. In September 1937, they moved to Lee Center, Ill., where Ivan worked for his brother on the farm. They relocated to Dixon, Ill., in October 1939. In 1944 they moved to Jamesville, Wis., and then Beloit, Wis. Winona and the children returned to live with her parents while Ivan was in the military. From 1946 until 1958, they farmed north of Central City and then moved into Central City until 1962. Winona began working at the Hesteds 5 and 10 Cent Store in Central City in 1957. When they moved to Grand Island in 1962, she transferred to the Hesteds 5 and 10 Cents Store there and then she worked for Schwesers of Nebraska and retired in 1983. After their retirement, Winona and Ivan moved to Clarks for several years and then moved to Central City to live at the Central City Care Center. Winona was a member of the Methodist faith for over 80 years and had been a member at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island, Fairview United Methodist Church in Central City, and the Clarks United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women. She taught Sunday School and Bible School, she was a 4-H leader, was a member of the VFW Auxiliary No. 1347, she enjoyed sewing and flowers. Winona and Ivan loved camping and had belonged to three camping clubs and a pinochle club. Winona was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and brothers, Willard and Merlin Black.
