Mr. Janda was operated on for appendicitis about a week before his death. His case was serious from the beginning, as the appendix had been ruptured. He passed away shortly after midnight Sunday. James Janda was born in Bohemia, September 8, 1964 [sic], and came to this country when he was 21 years of age, locating at Omaha, Nebraska, and later moved to Central City, where he lived for 11 years. He then moved to Sherman County, residing on a farm west of Loup City. A few years ago, the Janda family moved to Loup City, but later returned to the farm. Mr. Janda was married Nov. 19, 1895, while living in Omaha, and seven children were born to this union, five sons and two daughters. The sons are James of Omaha, Albert of Lincoln, Joe, Emil and Frances [sic] of Loup City. The daughters are Mrs. Anna Adams residing in the west part of the county, and Theresa, who is teaching school at Anselmo. Besides the loving wife and children, Mr. Janda leaves to mourn his death, three grand children, two brothers, one in Bath, Wyoming, and one in Bohemia; three sisters, one in Omaha and two in Bohemia. Funeral services were held Tuesday from St. Josaphat's Catholic church in charge of Rev. Father Szczerkowski, and the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. Mr. Janda was a very energetic hard working man, and highly respected by all who knew him. His death is a severe blow to his loved ones, and they have the sympathy of the entire community. Among those attending the funeral from away were Mrs. Chas. Tesnohlidek and Mrs. Anna Tesnohlidek and daughter, and Mrs. Joe Slazak, all of Omaha, the brother of the deceased from Wyoming, and friends from near and far. The Sherman County Times - Apr 13 1934
