Mrs. Harm Folkers died last Thursday morning at 5 o'clock. She had been in good health until last July when she became ill. She was taken to Mercy hospital at Anamosa, August 13, and was operated upon the following day. It was learned that she was suffering from cancer of the stomach, and her condition was pronounced incurable. The deceased, whose maiden name was Wuebke Maria Tobiason, was a daughter of the late Michael and Katharina Tobiason. She was born in the town of Ertzel, Ost Friesland, Germany, October 27, 1846. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church at an early age. She immigrated to the United States, March 28, 1869, and settled in Wayne Township. She was married to Harm Folkers, September 17, 1869. There were six children born to this union, five of whom survive their mother, Mrs. Linda Rickels having passed away, July 31, 1906; the surviving children are Henry, Tobias, John, Herman, and Mrs. John Stutt, the latter of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada. She is also survived by one brother, Benhard Tobiason, of Wayne Township, and two sisters, Mrs. Gerd Rickels and Mrs. Gerke H. Bohlken, also by twenty-three grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren. Mr. Folkers died January 11, 1905. Soon after the death of her husband, Mrs. Folkers retired from active farm work, and made her home with her youngest son, Herman. She was tenderly cared for throughout the remainder of her life. She was one of the founders of Zion's Lutheran church of Wayne township, and was always happy when she could further the cause of her Master. The funeral services were held last Saturday at one o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Folkers, with final services at Zion's Lutheran church at 1:30 o'clock. Both services were conducted by Rev. J. Willms, the pastor of Zion's Lutheran church. Services were conducted in both the English and German languages. In the former service Rev. Willms spoke from the text found in St. John's gospel, 14:13. In the German service he used the text found in St. Mark's gospel 14:8. Burial was had at Wayne Center cemetery.
