Lowe LOWE, ZELLA—Zella Lowe was born to John Arden Smith and Anna Barnett Smith on April 13, 1893, at Bennett township and passed away October 23, 1989, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 96 years, 6 months and 10 days. She was one of 11 children in the family. Zella attended school District 61 and was a graduate of the eighth grade. She moved to Geneva on 1907 and was employed as a waitress for four years. She was then employed by the Telephone Company as an operator for five years. In 1928 she and her husband moved to Fairmont. Zella was married to Anthony Olsen Lowe of Geneva on April 5, 1916, and to them five children were born. She was a member of the Fairmont Community Church and the AARP. Zella was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Smith; husband, Anthony; a stillborn daughter, Marilyn; and by three sisters and six brothers. Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont on Saturday October 28, with the Rev. Norman Kauble officiating. Mrs. Marvin Swartz accompanied Jane DeBoer, who sang “Amazing Grace” and “Thy Will Be Done” and the congregation which sang “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers were Tim Lowe, Clint Condon, Dwayne Judy, Dwight Fassnacht, Jerry Snodgrass, and Ralph Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Keil, Elmer Priefert, Cecil Swartz, Earl Frazier, Perry Arbuck, Lewis Badger Halsey, Joe Novak and Ray Mau. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery.
