Read More	The Bingham Graveyard is a cemetery located in the middle of the woods in the Birkhead Mountain Wilderness within the Uwharrie National Forest in Randolph County, North Carolina. Detailed directions to the cemetery are given below. Access to the cemetery requires a four mile round trip hike to the site which is located in wooden domain. The hike also entails fording several stream beds with one being rather large and it may be impassable after rainy weather. This land is designated as a state game land and hunting is allowed in season. The cemetery is marked by a large metal sign completed by boy scout leader Joe Moffitt and his boy scout troop in the 1970s. According to the Uwharrie Trail Audio Tour on line the cemetery was that of the Christopher “Kit” Bingham family. Kit, his wife Dolly, their children, and grandchildren are reported to be buried there resulting in what is said to be approximately thirty graves. Currently there are no marked stones at the cemetery but there are a number of field stones and several upright stone or triangular shaped markers within the wooded site. Periwinkle is planted throughout the woods at the sight. Research through ancestry.com records indicate that Christopher Bingham was born about 1760 and died between 1860 to 1863 living to be at least 100 years old and residing in Randolph County, North Carolina. Directions From Asheboro, North Carolina take NC49 south for approximately six miles. Turn right on Tot Hill Road. Go .25 miles further and at the T intersection turn left on Lassister Mill Road. Follow Lassiter Mill road for approximately five miles until there is a sign for Uwharrie National Forest Wilderness Area Robbins Branch Trail. Turn left at this sign and follow this dirt road until it ends at the Robbins Branch Trailhead. This is a one lane dirt road which will require a pull over if one meets another car on the road. This road has been in extremely bad condition in the recent past due to log trucks entering and exiting here but at the current time it is in a more passable condition. After parking at the trailhead there are two small metal poles marking the entrance to the Robbins Branch Trail. Follow this trail which is currently marked with a white blaze for approximately a half mile until there is a fork in the trail. Follow the right fork which is clearly designated as Hannah's Creek Trail. Follow Hannah's Creek Trail until it ends at the sign for the Birkhead Mountain Trail and the Tot Hill Trail. Take a slight right beside of the sign and take a yellow blazed trail slightly around and uphill from the sign. Continue walking and there will be a very small metal sign saying camp 6 Binghams Graveyard. Take a left and continue to follow the yellow blaze to the campsite. Turn right at the campsite and there is a large metal sign saying Bingham Graveyard. The stone markers are within the woods around the metal sign. The Uwharrie Trail Audio Tour available on line has designated the GPS coordinates as 35.58142606 and -79.9676221.
