| Description | : | Plans for the creation of a cemetery surrounding the Chapel of the Holy Cross on Santa Cruz Island were formulated by Carey Stanton in the early 1970's. Preparatory for the May 3, 1972, Feast of the Holy Cross, stored lengths of 19th century island-made wrought iron fencing from the Caire era were restored. This intricately detailed ironwork, topped with its welcoming pineapples, was installed to form the parameter of the cemetery.
