It was a temporary provisionary encampment established by Latter-day Saints of the Church of Jesus Christ, or "Mormon Pioneers", leaving Iowa City and surrounding locations to gather with others of their faith for the trek to the Great Salt Lake Valley in Utah Territory. It was during the years of 1847 through the 1860's that it was known as "Camp of the Saints, Musket Creek, Iowa" and was a stopping off place for hundreds of wagon trains & handcart companies.
