Description : Sir John Soane, the son of a bricklayer, had a long and successful career as an architect. He demolished and rebuilt three adjoining houses in Lincoln's Inn Fields to create a unique house, not only to live in, but also as a showcase for his collections of art and antiquities, and to demonstrate his theories on space, perspective, and the use of glass as a building material. The wildly idiosyncratic building is now open to the public as a museum. (Description by Sheilia W.)
